Rick Glassey OBJECTIVE A responsible and challenging position in animal management including selection of animals, design of exhibits, and general care. Particularly interested in setting up programs in the area in environmental enrichment, handling, training and education.
WORK EXPERIENCE 1985 to PRESENT: RICK GLASSEY'S JUNGLE BOOKINGS Sole proprietor of his own business through which he owns, raises, trains, and works 12 big cats--lions, tigers, and leopards--for motion picture and advertising work. Recent film credits include "EVAN ALMIGHTY", "HIDALGO", and "SECOND HAND LIONS". Some other film credits include "DR. DOLITTLE," "MIGHTY JOE YOUNG" and "GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE". Some commercial credits include Esso, Yuban coffee, Mandalay Films, Citroen, Union Bank and Ethan Allen. Black leopard was used in several music videos including Michael Jackson's "BLACK OR WHITE," Janet Jackson's "BLACK CAT", and Heart's "NOTHIN' AT ALL". Coordinates animal action and stunts with actors, other trainers and big cats, including lion stunts in "GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE", "THE POSTMAN", and "SECOND HAND LIONS", and tiger stunts in WALT DISNEY'S "THE JUNGLE BOOK" and "JUNGLE BOOK 2-- MOWGLI'S STORY". Traveled extensively through the U.S., Canada, Africa, Thailand, and Jordan with animals for filming, as well as for consultation on the raising, training/handling, housing, and exhibiting of big cats with other owners, performers and wildlife organizations, such as Earth Trust's "Project Tiger" in Thailand. Exhibited his animals for the purpose of promoting and publicizing many wildlife organizations, and has done much promotional/educational work for Tippi Hedren's ROAR FOUNDATION/THE SHAMBALA PRESERVE in California and ANIMAL ARK in Reno, NV.
MAY 1980 to 1985: DOUG HENNING MAGIC Owned and trained Bengal tigers and black leopards that performed illusions in Doug Henning's international touring magic shows. Promoted and publicized shows with the cats in all forms of media including appearances, TV commercials, and newspaper articles. Hired and coordinated all animal acts that appeared on Doug Henning's annual nationally-aired NBC television specials. Also did various freelance advertising work in New York with tigers and leopards including ads for Dodge Caravan and Fruit of the Loom.
AUG. 1982 to AUG. 1983: MERLIN COMPANY Responsible for all performing animals, i.e.: black leopards, horses, rabbits, chickens, and ducks; that appeared in the Broadway musical "MERLIN" starring Doug Henning, Nathan Lane, and Chita Rivera. This included animal selection, purchase, care, transportation, and training. Animals were used for promotion in all forms of media. The show was nominated for a Tony Award, best musical of 1983.
SEPT. 1975 to APRIL 1980: MARINE WORLD-AFRICA USA Started as a keeper of land animals, responsible for the care, feeding and maintenance of a variety of animals, including tigers. Eventually became head keeper, and remained in that position while at Marine World. During that time, became especially interested in Tigers and started "Tiger Island," a natural exhibit showing interaction between tigers and their handlers. Wrestled and "took hits" with tigers on land and in water, as well as educating the public in between exhibitions. Was responsible for hiring and training other handlers to do the same, as well as caring for and maintaining the tigers. Intermittenly between 1977 and 1979, was hired by Noel Marshall Productions to do stunts with multiple lions and tigers in film "ROAR," as well as back-up and safety for actresses Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith.
